Deeply fascinated by the rich, vibrant hues of India, Samantha Chundur creates minimal colorscapes deeply connected to growing up in India. There, color dominated every aspect of daily life: from the rich tones of cooking spices, to the colorful kollams drawn in front of houses, to the bold, bright shades of traditional clothing and textiles.
Her deeply saturated works epitomize the unity of color and abstraction it’s fullest respect. The immersive colorfields glow from within, focusing on a single tone to encourage the viewer to sit with the work, finding their own relationship to the heritage hues that Chundur references. Abstraction plays a key role in clarifying each individual memory.
She believes that art can inspire, heal and elevate. Since childhood, she was encouraged by her family to explore her artistry.
