This is one of a pair, which make a striking diptych — or they can be purchased individually. The paper is white, and the black inks have been laid down using stencils of 0s and 1s to write in binary code 00100000 over and over, which indicates the space between words in programming. This can be interpreted as a very zen way of signifying both silence, and the negative space that gives everything else form. There is also an inherent irony in needing a (code)word to signify the lack of a word. Once the numbers are laid down the artist splashes water on it to dissolve it into an abstract array, to give it motion and energy. As you see in the accompanying photographs, there is also a mix or warmer and cooler grays that wash out of the different inks. - DF
